Monthly Video

Aries: Clear Quartz
Clear quartz has a reputation of being a very programmable crystal. With that in mind, this is a year for setting goals. Be realistic with your goals, so that you can easily attain them. Get a small clear quartz and program it with your goals and sit back and enjoy the benefits of seeing those goals become reality.

Taurus: Rose Quartz
When people think of love, rose quartz is usually the stone they have in mind. It is all about love, a gentle love for anything really. Rose quartz has so many great qualities to share, but the catch is, it is a soft stone with soft energies. You need to relax and relate to enjoy the energies. When you do, you will no longer have to worry about giving and receiving, you will be one with the one you love to an extent that such things are meaningless.

Gemini: Amazonite
Amazonite stimulates the heart and throat chakras. It speaks about your personal truth needing to be expressed but it also points out that something is not right and is blocking that. You are not balanced right now and you need to seek balance and the ability to express yourself in a better way. So how do you do that, simple, check out for a while and recharge and balance yourself, go to a weekend spa or retreat and let your batteries recharge.

Cancer: Malachite
Malachite is often considered a good fortune stone. That luck will come your way soon. Now if everything is great in life then yes, that luck is going to come. But if you happen to live in the real world, with the rest of us, then you probably suffer from regret and guilt. This is due to your behaving in a way you wish you hadn’t in the past. It is a failure to see the positive in your choices and the fact you do have choices. If you want to see the good fortune of malachite shine on you, start seeing and feeling the positive.

Leo: Petrified Wood
This is a high vibration stone. It is wood that has been replaced with stone, contrary to popular believe the wood didn’t become stone, there is no wood left. Petrified wood is all about the steady growth of life. To go with the flow of things. To remember that the divine is with you and to work with those plans and not to go against it. If you can do this, you will be rewarded for your efforts. So you can either swim against the current and exhaust yourself, or go with the flow and enjoy the prizes.

Virgo: Red Jasper
Odds are, you will feel the need to help someone this month. It is in your best interest to act upon these feelings. Because it is not so much them that you are helping but yourself. This person will have issues that relate to past hurts for you. It is not important for you to go back and relive those past hurts, but to just heal them. The act of helping another will help you heal your own hurts.

Libra: Rhodochrosite
Relationships, that’s what Rhodochrosite is about. When I do a relationship reading for someone who has been wounded in love, this is a stone I recommend always. It’s powerful! It is such an understanding and loving stone and it loves to help people get back to feeling whole again. It’s most important message is self love, for without that, no one else can love you. Allow Rhodochrosite to help you find joy this month.

Scorpio: Amber
Something big is going to happen this month. It will not seem to be a good event at first. It will certainly feel negative. Amber asks you to stay calm, because by staying calm, you will find hidden agendas, plans within plans and this knowledge will help you set yourself free from a situation that has been holding you back. If you remain level headed in all this, you will come out feeling renewed and see this as a good turning point.

Sagittarius: Turquoise
All is not well. You know this and so do those around you. The issue is that you don’t express yourself properly. By that I mean, you say one thing but show quite another. You may ask for peace but when others give it to you, you get upset that nobody is talking to you. What you need to do is learn to express your true feelings, the outcome will not be as bad as you think it will be. Turquoise can help you in this situation to express what you really need to say, stop hiding your emotions, people want to be with the real you, not the mask you put up.

Capricorn: Azurite
Azurite is a mental stone, many people meditate with it on their third eye. What Azurite is asking of you right now it to give it a task, to help you reach your goals. With Azurite as your partner, it is best to focus on what you want as if you have it already. Even if you think you are being rejected, don’t give it, because often what you will find is that Azurite has already mapped out a better outcome for you, you just have to trust it.

Aquarius: Carnelian
Carnelian is quite the work horse crystal. It is used in a lot of spells associated with money, creativity and vitality. But what it asks of you is to act without judgment. Too often we censor ourselves to fit in, which causes a self inflicted wound on the self. Carnelian can help you heal those wounds and help you find an outlet to get back to you being you again. Share yourself with Carnelian and let it reflect back to you who you are to be.

Pisces: Labradorite
Labradorite is often considered a transformation stone. In your case, what it is trying to point out to you is that a certain situation that has been concerning you for a while is in fact rooted in fear. This will be a bit of a shock to you when you look at it but once you do, you will spring into action and make the changed needed to neutralize that fear. And once you have, you will be surprised at just how fast things start to change for you.

Rise of the Machines

Since you guys get to hear my work stories all the time, I will tell you a bit about what I do. As I mentioned, I work on forward looking futuristic projects. I dream the future and then get everyone to realize what that vision will be and then to start working on it. One of those areas I champion is called machine learning.

Machine learning isn’t new, it has been around well over a decade now. It is basically algorithms that can do all kinds of things. What I am most interested in is self-learning algorithms. That’s where people complain I am making the terminator movies a reality. The idea behind these algorithms is that we can get them to learn to find problems with themselves or some other code and then know how to fix the problem. This is about saving time and money.

The issue is, at what point can these algorithms become self aware? Can they become self aware at all? If so, then would they even think along the same lines as we do. Would they reach a point where they think they are better than us or want to get rid of us?

Of course we are a long way off from all this, if at all. The best learning machine has the mental abilities of a 3 year old. Although we shouldn’t forget that the young and immature mind is often the cruelest mind there is.

The algorithms I work on are more like fish or some similar creatures, out looking for bugs to eat. They go out and find bugs and fix them and then look for another. Their entire lives are focused on finding bugs. These learning machines lack the ability to even care or think about the bug beyond the fact that their programming tells them to find a bug that is making a problem and then fix it. But at least once a week I get asked about some kind of freakish machine creature from the future. Wondering if we are creating the future monsters we see in movie and TV today. Hence the Dr Who clip.

As a fan of the show since the 80’s, I find two of the monsters the scariest. The Angels, they steal your future. And the cybermen. They pull your brains out and put it into a machine body that is unable to feel emotions. Frankly, that’s scarier than a dalek.

The Edge of the World and the Witch of Leon

This morning I spent my time working on more powerpoint decks for work. Well I tried to, I was so not into it and having great internet connection speeds means I can spend my time surfing the net and not doing powerpoint. So, I just decided it was better to spend my afternoon out doing stuff. I want a new water filtering system for the house (don’t drink tap water people). I wasn’t finding what I want and was getting bored. For some reason I felt like driving out to the edge of the world.

The edge of the of the world is the name we give to a place that marks the end of the metro area. Beyond that, you will have to drive 3 states before you hit civilization again. Thus the name, the edge of the end of the world. At the edge of the end of the world is a market. It sits there like a lone post before you head off into the wilderness. I don’t normally go there this time of the year. It is a spring and early summer place, good to get heirloom plants for growing. But I felt almost pulled there, so I went.

At the market, nothing special was going on. I started to wonder if my intuition was just bored as well today and decided it wanted to go for a drive. Or maybe it is that yearning it has to live out there that had called me out there. I actually want to move away from the city, I need more peace than I can get. Then as I was thinking of leaving, I heard a woman call my name. It was a blonde woman, she about my age. She asked if I remembered her. I politely said that I was afraid that I did not. She then reminded me of who she is and that requires a flash back moment.

A long time ago, when I turned 18, I went on this multiyear quest to self define myself as a grown up. When I turned 18, everyone said I was a man now, but I didn’t feel any different than I had as a so called kid of 17. So I took all the chances I could to throw myself into unusual situations that pulled me out of my comfort zone, so I could help myself define who I am as a grown up.

The summer of 1994, I was waiting to start my summer job. I had two weeks to find something to do, that something was a road trip! I got in my car, which was almost as old as me, and started to drive. I just drove with no real plan, other than to be back on time to start my summer job. Somewhere in Missouri, I came into this small town. It was early evening and I was looking for dinner. It was a town so small that basically everything was on the main street. I found this diner that had mini donuts, who can say no to mini donuts! Nice and warm with that cinnamony taste…

There was a general store (a small grocery store) there and I stopped in to get some stuff for the road, in there was a blonde girl around my age who was getting harassed by some people. I’ve been told I have the righteous gene, when I see wrong being done, I generally step in to stop it. So that’s what I did. The locals backed off but told me I was going to pay for what I did, that the blonde girl is a witch and I would suffer for helping her. I didn’t listen. I figured they were backwards people in a small town. I offered the girl a ride back to her home. She pointed to the top of a ridge and said she lived up there. A sinking feeling of danger grew in my stomach when I looked up there. I knew something bad was up there, but my lack of knowing better at that age and macho bravado pushed me on.

While I drove her home, we got to talking; she told me that the town’s people call her a witch because of her mother who has been known to curse people. She seemed like a nice person, she didn’t come off as evil or mean or hate filled. I actually felt sorry for her because I felt like people were judging her and not getting to know her. I thought maybe that was true of everyone in the family, just being judged. As we got to the entrance of the ridge, I saw that there was only one road up and that was the same way out. Just one way. There was sign over the entrance that said Leon. Jen told me I could drop her off there, but it looked like a long steep walk up the hill. Therefore, I said I would drive her up, she said ok but that I had to leave right away. She was scared.

As we got to the top, there was one house and two other buildings there. The house looked old, like turn of the last century old. There was a woman on the steps, she was dress like someone from the 1900’s and kind of looked like Cinderella’s evil stepmother. As I pulled up, she said “you there, driver, come here, I want to speak with you.” Jen told me that I really should just ignore her and go and my gut was saying the same thing, but my curiosity won the debate and I got out of the car. I walked up to the steps and asked if I could help her. She asked me to come inside. Yes, I know, I’ve seen plenty of horror movies, I know that’s a stupid idea but I was 19!

Inside, the house was dark and the air was thick with tension. The old woman told me sit down and I did. She then asked me if I have had sex with her daughter, I said no, I just drove her home as she was being harassed by some people. I felt she needed help. The old woman got up and left and Jen told me to leave. I asked her why was she so afraid. She said that her mother thinks every man is out to get in bed with her and her brothers will beat me up if I stay. I asked her, what about her; doesn’t she think this is a bad environment? She said she didn’t know what else to do. I told her should find somewhere that allows her to be herself and feel loved, because this place was just all fear. She said she was not worthy that, she deserved to be there. I asked her why; she said she must have done something wrong to deserve such a life. I told her that maybe the real test is, does she have the courage to demand something better. That’s when the conversation got cut.

The Mom and two of Jen’s brothers, who looked like football players, came in. I got the impression they planned on removing some vital body parts. Thus the chase through the house and out the back. I was faster than the brothers were and got to my car and just peeled out of there and didn’t stop for another 100 miles. Yes, they scared the crap out of me! I’m a big guy, but these guys were bigger and I knew they could have done real damage to me and they had the will to do it too.

Back to the present at the edge of the world. There is Jen, a grown woman with two kids in tow. I asked her how did she end up there. She said she was in town visiting relatives of her husband who is from here. I then mentioned that the last time I saw her, I was running for my life from her brothers. That I felt bad all these years knowing I left her in a bad situation. She said I didn’t really. That I helped her realize she needed to leave. That one day she just packed a bag and left. Got on a bus and made her way to St. Louis. She got a job and did some classes and met a guy who made her feel loved and happy. They settled down in Chicago.

She asked me if I ever went back to the town she is from. I said no. She said, neither has she. She said she wanted to thank me for helping see that she deserved to be happy, it did give her the courage to seek out what she wanted in life. She looked happy and your typical Mom. Nobody would know it from looking at her now, the nightmare she grew up in.

It is funny how years later you can find out how you influenced someone in a way didn’t even realize.

Aries: Knight of Cups
You know the type, they are the people that believe love is like a romance novel. Some metrosexual looking guy rides in on a white horse and swoops his maiden off her feet. This guy may come into your life ladies. Guys, you get the female version, which may not be so bad until you realize you are paying for the bill on this date and it’s not cheap!

Taurus: Page of Swords
You know the type, they like to ask lots of questions. And in that they can be really annoying because they need an answer. They can’t take “I don’t know.” They are very smart but not always showing of intellectual rigor in their behavior but they are a true problem solver. As annoying as this person may be at time, they are going to be very handy for you this week in helping you solve some problems. Want to know more? Get a crystal consultation to see how your life can change for the better.

Gemini: 2 of Swords
Imagine two spinning blades in front of you. They are coming closer and if you don’t turn the switch off, they will slice you up. The horror!!!! You are afraid and fear grips you and you close your eyes as you try to pretend your situation away. That might be your reaction this week to something, but just do your thing, remain calm and think rational. Just tap the off switch and the spinning blades stop and you are safe.

Cancer: The Hanged Man
Life is not what it seems so don’t take it at face value.

Leo: Justice
The other night I was watching the anime, Dante’s Inferno, (not for kids). It isn’t like the book but more like the video game from last year. In the movie, Dante goes into hell to get his love Beatrice who has been murdered. While traveling through the 9 layers of hell, Dante faces many of his own sins, sins he did not consider as his own sins until he saw the wider ramifications of his actions and realized how what seemed like an innocent choice, proved to damn others to hell. Justice is about karma and this week, you are Dante, having to make wise choices and to live with the karma of those choices.

Virgo: The Hierophant
Wouldn’t it be nice to meet someone who doesn’t speak in riddles? Who answers the questions that you ask and who is able to fill in the gaps when it comes to the mysteries of the world? You have a good chance of meeting such a person this week. But he won’t be what you think so pay attention, the person you probably think is not him, is probably him.

Libra: 9 of Swords
You toss and turn, bad dreams wake you up in the middle of the night. Ever have one of those nights? Well one of those nights could be this week. Try to get plenty of sleep and find ways to ease your mind.

Scorpio: 9 of Pentacles
This card represents success, but it comes with a catch. Success is driven by following the spirit but that doesn’t mean success is limited to the spiritual realm. In fact it is about using your spirit to gain in all other areas.

Sagittarius: The Emperor
Imagine if you will Sag, a man on a solid stone throne overlooking the world. This man uses self-conscious mind and reason to create and build. This is you this week SAg. What you want is starting to appear in your life or soon will. Use your will to help it along. Now I said help it along, that doesn’t mean charge head-on and body slam people to the wall on your way to getting what you want. There is an aspect of grace and elegance that is good to have in this process that you need to demonstrate. The thing you need to watch is not being a tyrant with your reasoning, then you lose all your power.

Capricorn: 3 of Swords
This is the card everyone hates. There is no way around it, this is a card of pain. Something will hurt you this week and it will be the truth. It can be something as small as cutting words from someone close or bit like your lover telling you that they are cheating on you.

Aquarius: 7 of Cups
Normally I have something big to say since this week is all about focusing on one things and sticking with it, that’s what I’m going to do to. Focus and stick with it, that’s all you got to do this week.

Pisces: 4 of Swords
We all have problems and often we are told to roll up our sleeves and deal with them head on. Normally I would agree but not this week. The 4 of swords suggest you take a break and put your mind in a quiet place this week. Don’t think so much on what is wrong, just let it go, recharge and come back stronger another day.

Poll Question

What I do

In case you ever wondered what I do for a day job. I work on technology like these in the video below. Different company, but what I do is find ways to help us get to a world with these type of tools and similar tools. The real trick is to make this happen without causing a loss of personal freedom. There are many people who want to use this technology to control everyone else. I want to create it to help everyone have more freedom and control over their own lives.

I like working on such technologies because I see what I am doing as just one more piece of the puzzle to helping society grow and become better self aware. The more information you have available to you in a well organized and meaningful way, the better choices you can make. That’s my feeling and that is what I want to bring to you. It is why I fight at work as much as I do, to fight against the people who want to use these technologies to control you. We will reach this future world one way or another, I would rather reach it in a way that helps people live their lives their own way.

It’s a Sell Year

I spent my morning out doing the rounds at the various shops who are back from Tucson. If you are not familiar with the Tucson show, it is the largest crystal show in the US. It is held every year around January and February. Shop owners are now back and my suspicions have proven valid.

If you track the pricing of crystals, you would have noticed that many of them have gone up in price over the last 4 years. Part of this is due to plain old economics, the price of shipping has gone up so the cost to buy at the consumer level is going to go up as well. But some crystals have gone up in price at an alarming rate. Take trigonic quartz, you could guy a 4 inch piece for under $100 just 5 years ago. I’ve seen those same pieces going for $15,000 to $30,000 now. And the answer is simple.

Because of the Mayan calendar ending, all kinds of stories have surfaced about what we can expect. And there is no shortage of crystal related stories. Many of which are centered around ascension or something along those lines. As a result, those stones that have been labeled as good stones to have for December, have gone up in price big time. If you just want your average tumbled tiger eye, that price is still fairly steady, with some adjustment for economics. But if you want something like trigonic or lemurian, yeah, you will be paying a premium for it.

If you have a stockpile you want to sell, this is a great year, there are plenty of eager buyers. I have had a few tell me to name my price to part with my master matrix Lemurians. There isn’t a price for them. But that’s how desperate people are getting. When we are all still here next year, it should be a great year to buy up those hot stones of today.

Tarotscopes for the Week of Feb 18th

February 18th – February 24th Tarotscope forecast

Here is this weeks video.

If you want more information beyond the weekly tarotscopes, check them out. You’ll find me on there as well, your humble reader, John Atla. Aries: Page of Wands
Like a kid the night before Christmas, trying not to look as though you really only have the presents on your mind. You have ideas, you just don’t have the timing on your side. You still have to wait to release those ideas. In the meantime, don’t look like you would rather be with someone else or somewhere else, people will notice and be turned off by it.

Taurus: King of Swords
A single minded person with stunning intellect with a mastery of many things. You are confident in your opinions and love to express them in a friendly debate or argument. If someone needs advice on a logic problem, you the go to person however, when it comes to the heart, you are not. Yes, you are strong in so many ways and you should use those talents, but realize they do have their limits in some areas.

Gemini: 9 of Pentacles
This card represents success, but it comes with a catch. Success is driven by following the spirit but that doesn’t mean success is limited to the spiritual realm. In fact it is about using your spirit to gain in all other areas.

This guy may come into your life ladies. Guys, you get the female version, which may not be so bad until you realize you are paying for the bill on this date and it’s not cheap!

Leo: King of Cups
Imagine you walk down to the sea and you see a man on a pier. He sits at a table drinking his wine calmly and with a look of peace and affection in his eyes. As you get closer, you see that the seas under the pier are violent and churning. Yet the man is calm and is unaffected by this. This is a week where your emotions may swing between expressively joyful to cold bluntness, but it is best to try and be like the man on the pier and try not to let those emotions affect you too much. In case you are worried about saying the wrong thing, this may be a good week to do more listening than talking for a change.

Libra: 7 of Swords
Means to an end is a phrase we often here. That the ends justify the means, so what if a few people get hurt along the way, the ends justify any cost. You are going to run into someone who thinks like this, and they have been plotting their actions for a while and you will see a bit of those plans come to the surface this week. You better watch out, backstabbing, thievery and deception are all possibilities this week. Don’t end up a casualty of their means to an end.

Scorpio: Wheel of Fortune
Wheel of Fortune is kind of like the game show with the same name. You spin the wheel and where does it end, you don’t know! Unlike in the game show, this card is all about that random piece of information coming out of nowhere to hit you, while the pretty ladies of the game show are in the background smiling. They are always smiling, but at what?

Sagittarius: The Hanged Man
Life is not what it seems so don’t take it at face value.

Capricorn: Knight of Swords
A single minded person with stunning intellect with a mastery of many things. You are confident in your opinions and love to express them in a friendly debate or argument. If someone needs advice on a logic problem, you the go to person however, when it comes to the heart, you are not. The 4 of swords suggest you take a break and put your mind in a quiet place this week. Don’t think so much on what is wrong, just let it go, recharge and come back stronger another day.

Pisces: Queen of Pentacles
Imagine a very pretty woman at cafe with a small coffee and a pastry in front of her. She gazes down at her coffee with a little faint smile as if she is admiring the swirls in her coffee as she stirs it slowly. Nothing bothers her, she is very grounded and down to earth as her environment is comfortable and efficient. Oh this is your kind of week, a down to earth week. The kind where you bake cookies to deal with a problem. Make lists and things to do will happen, it’s all about the practical approach to life this week.
